Life, the Universe, & Everything: The Marion K. "Doc" Smith Symposium on Science Fiction and Fantasy
A three-day science fiction and fantasy symposium with an emphasis on writing and academics. Feb. 14-16, 2008. Guests of Honor: Gail Carson Levine, author of "Ella Enchanted," "Two Princesses of Bamarre," and "Princess Tales;" Orson Scott Card, author of "Ender's Game," "Ender's Shadow" and "Red Prophet;" Kevin Wasden, fantasy and comic artist. Panels, presentations and workshops on writing, media analysis, SF art and worldbuilding. Academic papers on SF&F themes. Also a one-day Educator's Conference (Saturday) for teachers, librarians and parents. Admission is free. Flyers, writing contest info, links. Guests TBA.
Mountain-Con: A Science Fiction Celebration
An annual science fiction convention with strong media components held in Salt Lake City. No date set for 2008 as yet. Panels, presentations, KidCON, masquerade, gaming, videos, more. Mailing list, forums, registration information and regional links included. Held at the University Park Marriott by the University of Utah.
Utah Speculative Fiction Council
UtahSF is a non-profit advisory and support organization for Utah speculative fiction-related groups. It gives them a common forum, which fosters discussion and inter-group cooperation. It also supports local SF/F/H conventions. UtahSF hosts a ClubWiki and a list of many local clubs and organizations. UtahSF is currently the parent organization of the 2008 World Horror Convention in SLC. Next meeting: 13 October, 4:00 pm SL Main Library, Level 1 Conference Room D.
